Biography

Yao Chin is a British actor, journalist, and television presenter known for building a career across both entertainment and broadcast journalism. Born on 23 May 1979 in Dulwich, London, England, he has worked in film, television, theatre, news reporting, and commercial campaigns.

Early Life and Education

Yao Chin developed an interest in both performance and journalism from an early stage. While studying at university, he began working with ITV News, taking on responsibilities as an assistant news editor and Westminster producer. After completing his studies, he joined ITV News professionally and began reporting on a broad range of subjects, including politics, economics, international events, disasters, and sports.

Journalism Career

Chin spent several years working as a network news reporter, gaining experience covering major national and international stories. He later worked for Al Jazeera English, where he continued his career in broadcast journalism. His work eventually expanded to reporting from China for CGTN, demonstrating his experience as an international journalist and presenter.

Acting Career

Alongside journalism, Yao Chin pursued acting and theatre. One of his notable stage credits was the musical Anything Goes, in which he played John. The production was associated with both the Royal National Theatre and London's West End, giving him experience in major British theatre productions. He also appeared in Love's Labour's Lost at the Royal National Theatre.

His best-known film role came in Doom (2005), the science-fiction action film starring Karl Urban, Dwayne Johnson, and Rosamund Pike. Chin played Mac Takahashi, a member of the military team sent to investigate events at a research facility on Mars.

Television and Film Work

Following Doom, Chin continued appearing in television and film projects. His credits include SuperBob, The Split, Get Even, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Somewhere Boy, The Swimmers, and Fifteen-Love. His roles have included news anchors, reporters, doctors, commentators, and other supporting characters.

In The Swimmers (2022), he played a Reporter at the Rio Games, while in The Man Who Fell to Earth he appeared as a TV anchor. His later work has continued to combine his background in journalism with his acting experience.
