Umesh Bansal
Biography
Umesh Bansal is a seasoned Indian business executive with a diverse background spanning finance, strategy, and media. Before entering the entertainment industry, he held significant roles in the banking sector, including a tenure at Axis Bank, where he rose to become the Head of Group Strategy and Chief of Staff to the Managing Director and CEO. He also had a brief stint at ANZ as Country Business Manager.
Transition to Media and Entertainment
In 2015, Bansal joined the Essel Group as Vice President in the Group Chairman’s Office. The following year, he transitioned to Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL), taking on the role of Head of the Network Content Engine. His responsibilities encompassed overseeing content strategy and production, laying the groundwork for his future leadership roles within the company.
Leadership at Zee Studios
Bansal's trajectory at ZEEL saw him leading Zee Studios in Jaipur, where he managed business operations and content production. His strategic vision and operational acumen led to his appointment as Executive Vice President in the MD and CEO’s Office in 2019. By April 2024, he was promoted to Chief Business Officer of Zee Studios, reflecting his integral role in steering the company's film division.
Expanded Role in Music Business
In July 2024, ZEEL assigned Bansal additional responsibilities, entrusting him with the leadership of the music business alongside his existing role in the movie division. This strategic move aimed to synergize the company's film and music ventures, enhancing profitability and operational efficiency. Bansal continues to report directly to ZEEL's Managing Director and CEO, Punit Goenka.
