Sunder (born Sunder Singh; 1917 – 22 January 1982) was an Indian actor and comedian who worked in Hindi cinema from the 1940s to the early 1980s. Known simply as Sunder, he became one of Bollywood's most recognizable comic actors, admired for his expressive performances, impeccable comic timing, and memorable supporting roles.

 

 

Early Life

Sunder Singh was born in 1917 in British India. He developed an interest in acting at an early age and entered the Hindi film industry during the 1940s.

 

 

Career

Sunder appeared in more than 300 films over a career spanning four decades. He worked with many of the leading filmmakers and actors of his time, including Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, and Amitabh Bachchan.

 

He became known for his roles in popular films such as Albela (1951), Baazi (1951), Jaal (1952), Taxi Driver (1954), Munimji (1955), Paying Guest (1957), Solva Saal (1958), Half Ticket (1962), Brahmachari (1968), Padosan (1968), Victoria No. 203 (1972), and Bombay to Goa (1972).

 

His natural comic style and ability to portray humorous supporting characters made him a favorite among audiences throughout the golden era of Hindi cinema.
