Simon Fields

Biography

Simon Fields is an award-winning British film and television producer with an extensive career spanning feature films, television, commercials, and music videos. Born in London, he was educated at Stowe School before beginning his career in television commercial production.

Early Career

Fields worked his way through London's television commercial industry before becoming Production Manager for the Moving Picture Company. In 1980, he joined Jon Roseman Productions as a producer and moved to Los Angeles within a year to oversee the company's U.S. division.

In 1981, Fields co-founded Limelight, a production company operating in Los Angeles and London, alongside Steve Barron. Serving as President and CEO, he helped expand the company into a major force in music video, commercial, and feature-film production. During his tenure, Limelight developed an award-winning commercial division whose clients included Calvin Klein, Nike, and Budweiser.

The company also became prominent in music video production, working on projects connected with major artists including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Peter Gabriel, A-ha, and David Bowie. Fields also produced the successful feature film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Film Producing Career

Fields later began collaborating with filmmaker Peter Chelsom on feature-film projects. Their work together included Hear My Song, Funny Bones, Serendipity, and Shall We Dance. Funny Bones, starring Oliver Platt and Jerry Lewis, earned Fields and Chelsom a London Critics Circle Film Award for British Producer of the Year.

Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, became a popular romantic comedy, while Shall We Dance, starring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Jennifer Lopez, achieved worldwide box-office success, grossing more than $200 million.

Nuyorican Productions

From 2003 until March 2013, Fields served as President of Nuyorican Productions in partnership with Jennifer Lopez. Their professional relationship developed following their successful collaboration on Shall We Dance.

During his time with the Los Angeles-based production company, Fields produced and executive-produced numerous film and television projects. His film credits included Bordertown, starring Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas; El Cantante, a biographical drama about salsa musician Héctor Lavoe starring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony; and Feel the Noise, a musical drama set between New York and Puerto Rico.

Nuyorican also expanded into television and reality programming during Fields' tenure. The company's projects included Dancelife, a dance competition series for MTV, and South Beach, a drama series centered on the lives of young people in Miami's South Beach.

Fields also developed and served as executive producer on The Fosters, a family drama that premiered on ABC Family in 2013. Under his leadership, Nuyorican developed scripted projects for major networks including Fox, ABC, and CBS, while also expanding its unscripted and reality television division.

Fields Entertainment

Following his tenure at Nuyorican Productions, Fields continued his career through his own production banner, Fields Entertainment. His later work included television production, with projects such as The Carbonaro Effect for truTV. He also became involved in developing feature-film projects, including Blowback in partnership with Shine Pictures.
