Biography
Baby Shamili, also known simply as Shamili, is an Indian actress who has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu cinema. Born on 10 July 1987, she began acting as a child artist at the age of two. She is the younger sister of actress Shalini and actor Richard Rishi.
Shamili became widely known for her performance as the title character in Anjali (1990), directed by Mani Ratnam. Her portrayal of a child with developmental disabilities earned her the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
In Malayalam cinema, she is particularly remembered for Malootty (1992), directed by Bharathan. She played the five-year-old Malootty, who becomes trapped in a borewell, and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her performance.
She also appeared in Malayalam films including Kilukkampetti (1991), Pookkalam Varavayi (1991), Lalanam (1996) and Harikrishnans (1998). In Harikrishnans, she played Ammalu, the younger sister of Mammootty's Hari and the cousin of Mohanlal's Krishnan.
After a long break from acting, Shamili returned as a leading actress with the Telugu film Oy! (2009). She later appeared in the Tamil film Veera Sivaji (2016) and the Malayalam film Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti (2016), her first Malayalam film as a leading actress.
Despite having a relatively short career as a child artist, Baby Shamili remains one of the most celebrated child performers in South Indian cinema, particularly remembered for Anjali and Malootty.
