Santhosh Echikkanam

Biography

Santhosh Echikkanam is an Indian writer and screenwriter who predominantly works in Malayalam literature and cinema. Born in 1971 in Echikkanam, Kasaragod, Kerala, he developed a reputation as a short-story writer before making a significant contribution to Malayalam films.

Early Life and Literary Career

Santhosh studied Malayalam literature and later completed a postgraduate diploma in journalism and mass communication from the Kerala Press Academy. He worked as a teacher and was also associated with Akashvani.

He gained recognition in Malayalam literature through his short stories, particularly Komala and Biriyani. His short-story collection earned him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2008. He has also received several other literary honours, including the Padmaprabha Literary Award and Pravasi Basheer Award.

Film Career

Santhosh entered Malayalam cinema as a screenwriter with November Rain (2007). He subsequently became associated with several acclaimed films as a writer and screenwriter. His notable credits include Bachelor Party (2012), Nidra (2012), Annayum Rasoolum (2013), Njan Steve Lopez (2014), Idukki Gold (2013), Chandrettan Evideya (2015) and Aby (2017).

His writing often focuses on ordinary people, social realities, relationships and human emotions. His literary background has influenced his approach to screenwriting, helping him bring nuanced characters and realistic situations to Malayalam cinema.
