Sakthi Saravanan is a distinguished Indian cinematographer renowned for his dynamic visual storytelling in Tamil and Telugu cinema. Born on November 20, 1969, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, he has become a pivotal figure in South Indian filmmaking, celebrated for his handheld camera techniques and gritty visual style.​

 

Early Life and Education

Sakthi Saravanan pursued his passion for cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, where he earned a diploma in film technology with a specialization in cinematography. His academic excellence was recognized with a gold medal upon graduation in 1991.

 

Career Highlights

Saravanan's breakthrough came with the 2007 Tamil film Chennai 600028, directed by Venkat Prabhu. This collaboration marked the beginning of a successful partnership, leading to acclaimed projects such as Saroja (2008), Goa (2010), and Mankatha (2011). His work on Mankatha earned him the International Tamil Film Awards (ITFA) Best Cinematographer award.

 

Beyond his collaborations with Venkat Prabhu, Saravanan has worked with director M. Rajesh on films like Siva Manasula Sakthi (2009) and Boss Engira Bhaskaran (2010). His versatility is evident in his ability to adapt his cinematographic style to suit various genres and narratives.​
