Biography

Rashid Khan (5 July 1915 – 1972) was an Indian character actor who appeared in more than sixty Hindi films between 1946 and 1974. Renowned for his versatility, he portrayed a wide range of supporting roles, including fathers, comic characters, loyal friends, and villains, making him a familiar face in Hindi cinema during the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s.

Early Life

Rashid Khan was born on 5 July 1915 in India. He developed an interest in acting at an early age and entered the Hindi film industry in the mid-1940s.

Career

Rashid Khan made his acting debut in Dharti Ke Lal (1946). Over the next three decades, he established himself as one of Bollywood's dependable character actors, appearing in more than sixty films.

He shared a long and successful association with Dev Anand, beginning with Afsar (1950), the first production of Navketan Films. He later appeared alongside Dev Anand in several successful films, including Baazi (1951), Taxi Driver (1954), Bombai Ka Babu (1960), Kala Bazaar (1960), Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), and Banarasi Babu (1973), often playing important supporting roles.

During his career, Rashid Khan also worked with many of the biggest stars of his era, including Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, and Amitabh Bachchan. His versatility enabled him to portray comic characters, fathers, sidekicks, and antagonists with equal ease, earning him respect throughout the industry.

Legacy

Rashid Khan is remembered as one of Hindi cinema's finest character actors. Although he rarely played lead roles, his memorable supporting performances added depth and charm to many classic films. His long association with Dev Anand and his consistent work across three decades made him an important figure in the golden age of Hindi cinema.

Death

Rashid Khan died in 1972 at the age of 56. Several of the films he had completed before his death were released posthumously, with his final screen appearances continuing until 1974.
