Biography

Prasanna Venkatesan, professionally known as Prasanna, is an Indian actor who predominantly works in Tamil cinema and has also appeared in Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films. He was born on 28 August 1982 in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He developed an interest in acting and mimicry during his school and college years and studied electrical and electronics engineering at Saranathan College of Engineering.

Career

Prasanna entered the film industry after attending an audition for director Susi Ganesan's Five Star (2002), produced by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies. The film marked his acting debut and established him as a promising young performer. He subsequently appeared in Ragasiyamai (2003) and gained wider recognition with Azhagiya Theeye (2004). His performance in the film led producer-actor Prakash Raj to cast him in Kanda Naal Mudhal (2005).

During the following years, he appeared in films including Kasthuri Maan (2005), Cheena Thaana 001 (2007), Sadhu Miranda (2008), and Anjathe (2008). His portrayal in Anjathe demonstrated his ability to take on darker and more complex characters and earned him an ITFA Best Villain Award nomination for his performance.

One of his notable films was Achchamundu! Achchamundu! (2009), in which he starred alongside Sneha and American actor John Shea. The film received international attention and was screened at several film festivals. He continued with films such as Naanayam (2010), Baana Kaathadi (2010), Muran (2011), and Chennaiyil Oru Naal (2013).

Prasanna later expanded his work into negative and supporting roles, demonstrating versatility beyond conventional leading-man characters. His credits include Thupparivaalan, Kaalakkoothu, Jawaan, Vismaya, Mafia: Chapter 1, and Kannai Nambathey. He has also worked in digital entertainment, appearing in projects such as Thiravam, Fingertip, Victim, and Navarasa.

Later Work

In addition to Tamil cinema, Prasanna has taken on roles in Malayalam and Telugu productions, including Brother's Day, Viswamitra, and King of Kotha. He has also appeared in Hindi-language projects, including the series Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond (2024).

Personal Life

Prasanna married actress Sneha in 2012. The couple has two children. Their relationship began after they worked together on Achchamundu! Achchamundu! and they subsequently became one of the notable couples in the Tamil film industry.
