Biography

Nana Palsikar (20 May 1907 – 1 June 1984) was a distinguished Indian actor, director, screenwriter, and producer who worked primarily in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Renowned for his realistic performances and expressive acting, he became one of the most respected character actors in Indian films. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he appeared in over 150 films, portraying a wide variety of memorable roles.

Early Life

Nana Palsikar was born on 20 May 1907 in Bombay Presidency, British India (present-day Maharashtra, India). From a young age, he developed an interest in theatre, which eventually led him to a successful career in films.

Career

Palsikar began his film career in the 1920s during the silent era and successfully transitioned into talkies. Initially working as an actor, he later expanded into directing, screenwriting, and producing. By the 1950s and 1960s, he had established himself as one of Hindi cinema's most dependable character actors.

Known for portraying wise elders, doctors, judges, teachers, and sympathetic family members, Palsikar worked with many of the leading filmmakers and actors of his time, including Bimal Roy, V. Shantaram, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, and Sunil Dutt.

Death

Nana Palsikar passed away on 1 June 1984 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, at the age of 77.
