M. V. Raghu
Biography
M. V. Raghu (born 5 October 1954) is an Indian cinematographer who later became a director, screenwriter, and producer in the Telugu film industry. Known for his artistic visual style and strong storytelling sense, he has worked on numerous films and collaborated with prominent filmmakers. In the Telugu film industry, he is also popularly known as “Kallu Raghu”, after directing the award-winning film Kallu.
Early Life and Education
M. V. Raghu was born in India and developed an interest in photography and cinema during his early years. He completed his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from SRR & CVR Government Degree College in Vijayawada.
After finishing his undergraduate studies, he pursued his passion for visual arts by joining the Government College of Fine Arts, where he completed a Diploma in Photography. This formal training helped him build a strong foundation in cinematography and visual composition.
Early Career
Raghu began his career in the film industry in 1975 at the famous Vijaya Vauhini Studios in Chennai. During this period, he worked as a camera and focus assistant and gained valuable practical experience.

Kallu received several awards, including state awards, and also earned a special mention from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) jury. The success of the film led to Raghu being widely recognized in the industry, and it also gave him the nickname “Kallu Raghu.”
Apart from directing, he has also worked as a screenwriter and producer, contributing to different aspects of filmmaking.
