Montgomery Clift was an American actor regarded as one of the most influential performers of Hollywood's Golden Age. He was born on October 17, 1920, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Clift became known for his emotionally intense and naturalistic acting style. He made his film debut in Red River (1948) and quickly gained recognition for performances in films such as The Search (1948), A Place in the Sun (1951), From Here to Eternity (1953), Raintree County (1957), The Young Lions (1958), and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961).
He received four Academy Award nominations during his career, including for The Search, A Place in the Sun, From Here to Eternity, and Judgment at Nuremberg.
Clift's career was severely affected by a serious automobile accident in 1956, which caused major facial injuries and ongoing health problems. Despite these difficulties, he continued acting in several important films.
Montgomery Clift died on July 23, 1966, in New York City, at the age of 45. He remains remembered as a pioneering and highly respected actor whose performances helped influence modern screen acting.
