Biography
Minoo Mumtaz (26 April 1942 – 23 October 2021) was an Indian actress and dancer who worked in Hindi cinema during the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s. Renowned for her graceful dance performances and expressive screen presence, she appeared in numerous popular Bollywood films, often in supporting roles and memorable dance sequences.
Born Malikunnisa Ali in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, she was the younger sister of legendary comedian Mehmood. With Mehmood's encouragement, she entered the film industry and quickly established herself as a talented dancer and actress.
Some of her notable films include Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Mere Mehboob, Taj Mahal, Bahu Begum, Gharana, Kaajal, and Patthar Ke Sanam.
Throughout her career, Minoo Mumtaz worked alongside many of Hindi cinema's leading stars, including Guru Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Meena Kumari, and Waheeda Rehman. She was especially admired for her lively dance numbers, which became a hallmark of many classic Hindi films.
Minoo Mumtaz retired from films in the early 1970s and later settled in Canada with her family. She passed away on 23 October 2021 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, leaving behind a legacy as one of the memorable dancers and supporting actresses of classic Hindi cinema.
