K. P. Hariharaputhran

Biography

K. P. Hariharaputhran (3 January 1944 – 26 August 2023) was a veteran Indian film editor who worked primarily in Malayalam cinema. He had a career spanning nearly five decades and edited around 80 films.

 

He entered the film industry in 1971 as an assistant to editor K. Sankunni on Vilakku Vangiya Veena. He later worked as an associate editor before becoming an independent editor with Kalliyankattu Neeli (1979).

 

Hariharaputhran edited several successful Malayalam films, including Sheshakriya (1982), Sukhamo Devi (1986), Samrajyam (1990), Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava (1995), Punjabi House (1998), Thenkasipattanam (2000), Kalyanaraman (2002), Pulival Kalyanam (2003), Chathikkatha Chanthu (2004), Pandippada (2005), Vadakkumnadhan (2006), Mayavi (2007), Chocolate (2007) and Lollipop (2008).

 

He was particularly associated with the comedy filmmakers Rafi–Mecartin and Shafi, editing many of their popular films. His final editing credit was The Great Indian Road Movie (2019).

K. P. Hariharaputhran died at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram on 26 August 2023, aged 79. He is remembered as one of the experienced editors who contributed to Malayalam cinema across several generations.
