Kavithalayaa Krishnan, whose real name is T. Krishnan, is an Indian actor known for his supporting roles in Tamil films and television serials. He became widely recognized through his frequent collaborations with legendary filmmaker K. Balachander. Because he regularly appeared in projects produced by Kavithalayaa Productions, the name “Kavithalayaa” became associated with him and eventually became part of his professional name.

 

 

Early Life and Education

Kavithalayaa Krishnan studied engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy. During his college years, he developed a passion for theatre and acting.

He was a classmate of the renowned playwright and actor Crazy Mohan. Together, they performed in several stage plays, which helped Krishnan gain early experience in acting and stage performance.

 

 

Career

Theatre Career

Krishnan began his artistic journey in stage theatre. His involvement in plays with Crazy Mohan helped him gain recognition in Chennai’s theatre circles. Over the years, he has performed in more than 2,500 stage shows, establishing himself as a respected theatre actor.

 

 

Film Career

Kavithalayaa Krishnan made his film debut in 1983 with the movie
Poikkal Kudhirai, directed by K. Balachander.

The film was based on a stage play by Crazy Mohan titled Marriage Made in Saloon. After his debut, Krishnan appeared in many Tamil films, usually in supporting or character roles.

Throughout his career, he has acted in over 120 films, contributing memorable performances in small but important roles.

 

 

Television Career

In addition to films, Krishnan became a familiar face on Tamil television. He appeared in many television serials produced by Kavithalayaa Productions.

His strong association with these productions further strengthened his identity as “Kavithalayaa” Krishnan. Over time, he has acted in more than 60 television serials.

 

 

Awards and Recognition
