Jayachitra is an Indian actress, director and producer who has worked predominantly in Tamil and Telugu cinema, with appearances in Malayalam and Kannada films as well. Born on September 9, 1957, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, she entered the film industry as a child artist and later established herself as a leading actress.
She made her debut as a child artist in Bhakta Potana (1966) and became a popular heroine during the 1970s. Jayachitra worked with several leading actors and filmmakers of South Indian cinema and was known for portraying a wide range of characters, from romantic leads to emotionally complex roles.
Her notable films include Kuzhandhaiyum Deivamum (1965), Navarathinam (1977), Ponnagaram (1980), Azhage Unnai Aaradhikkiren (1979), Naan Avanillai (1974) and Agni Sakshi (1982). She also appeared in Malayalam films and continued acting in supporting roles in later years.
