Iqbal Kuttippuram
Biography
Iqbal Kuttippuram is an Indian screenwriter and homeopathic physician who works primarily in Malayalam cinema. Born on 15 May 1970 in Kuttippuram, Kerala, he is known for his distinctive storytelling and screenplays that often explore relationships, social issues and the experiences of ordinary people.
He made his screenwriting debut with Niram (1999), directed by Kamal. The film became a major success and established him as a promising writer in Malayalam cinema. He subsequently worked on films including Meghamalhar (2001), Gramaphone (2003), Swapnakoodu (2003), 4 the People (2004), Arabikkatha (2007), Sevenes (2011) and Diamond Necklace (2012).
Some of his later notable works include Oru Indian Pranayakatha (2013), Vikramadithyan (2014), Jomonte Suvisheshangal (2017), Meow (2021) and Makal (2022). He has contributed stories, screenplays and dialogues to several of these films.
Among his best-known collaborations is Arabikkatha (2007), directed by Lal Jose, a satirical drama set partly against the lives of Malayali expatriates in the Gulf. He also wrote Diamond Necklace, Oru Indian Pranayakatha and Vikramadithyan, strengthening his reputation as one of the notable Malayalam screenwriters of his generation.
Alongside cinema, Iqbal Kuttippuram has pursued a career as a homeopathic physician, including professional work in Dubai. His ability to combine his medical profession with screenwriting has made his career particularly distinctive in Malayalam cinema.
