Biography

Gayathri Raguram (born 22 April 1984) is an Indian actress, choreographer, and politician associated with Tamil cinema and South Indian entertainment. She is the daughter of veteran choreographer Raghuram and comes from a prominent family of dancers and filmmakers.

 

 

Acting Career

Gayathri began her acting career with the Tamil comedy film Charlie Chaplin (2002). She subsequently appeared in films including Vikadan and Parasuram. After a period away from acting, she shifted her focus toward choreography and worked in the Tamil film industry as a dance choreographer.

 

 

Choreography

Coming from a family deeply connected with dance, Gayathri developed her skills in choreography and began working on films from 2008. Her choreography credits include films such as Jayam Kondaan and Poi Solla Porom. She continued working in choreography for several years alongside occasional screen appearances.

She also gained wider public recognition through her participation in the first season of Bigg Boss Tamil in 2017.

 

 

Political Career

Gayathri entered politics and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014. She later held a position related to the party's arts wing in Tamil Nadu. In 2023, she left the BJP. She subsequently joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), where she became deputy secretary of the party's women's wing in 2024.

 

 

Family and Background

Gayathri is the daughter of choreographer Raghuram and choreographer Girija Raghuram. She belongs to a family with a long association with Indian classical dance and cinema. Her relatives include noted dancers and choreographers such as Padma Subrahmanyam, Kala, and Brinda.
