Ganesh Acharya, born on June 14, 1971, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a renowned Indian choreographer, film director, and actor who has significantly influenced Bollywood's dance landscape. His dynamic choreography and storytelling have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
Early Life and Inspiration
Acharya's passion for dance was inherited from his father, Krishna Gopi, a dancer and choreographer. Tragically, his father's death when Ganesh was just 10 years old forced him to abandon formal education. He moved to Cuttack, Odisha, where his sister introduced him to dance, setting the foundation for his future career.
Rise in Bollywood
At 12, Acharya formed his dance group, and by 19, he debuted as a choreographer with the film Anaam (1992). His innovative choreography quickly gained recognition, leading to work in successful films like Coolie No. 1 (1995), Judwaa (1997), and Baadshah (1999).
Acclaimed Choreography
Acharya's choreography is known for blending traditional Indian dance with contemporary styles. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for "Beedi Jalaile" from Omkara (2006). His work in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) earned him the National Film Award for Best Choreography for "Maston Ka Jhund," and he won the same award again for "Gori Tu Latth Maar" from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017).

Beyond choreography, Acharya ventured into directing with Swami (2007), followed by Money Hai Toh Honey Hai (2008) and Bhikari (2017). As an actor, he has appeared in films like Company (2002), ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (2013), and Zero (2018), showcasing his versatility in the film industry.
Personal Life
In November 2000, Ganesh Acharya married Vidhi Acharya, a film producer. The couple has a daughter named Soundarya Acharya.
