Ariel Marx
Biography
Ariel Marx is an Emmy-nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist known for her distinctive and inventive scores for film and television.
Marx graduated from New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education & Human Development, earning a Master of Music degree in composition with a concentration in film scoring.
Drawing from various genres, she often blends orchestral and folk instruments with electronics to craft unique sonic landscapes. Her scores have been featured in numerous films that premiered at national and international film festivals, including Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW, where she has received awards for her musical contributions.
Some of her notable works include scores for the films Shiva Baby, The Tale, Sanctuary, and Birth/Rebirth, as well as the television series A Small Light, Candy, and episodes of Black Mirror and American Horror Stories. She received an Emmy nomination for her work on the National Geographic miniseries A Small Light.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Marx often performs on the scores she composes, with a proficiency in violin, and also plays guitar, piano, and flute. In 2020, she released her solo album, Luthier.
Ariel Marx is a member of the music branch of both the Television Academy and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is an alumna of the Sundance Film Music and Sound Design Lab.
