Andrew Mondshein (born February 28, 1957) is an acclaimed American film editor and director, recognized for his adept storytelling and innovative editing techniques across a diverse array of films.
Early Life and Education
Mondshein grew up on the East Coast of the United States and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. His early interest in cinema led him to New York, where he began his career in film editing.
Career Highlights
Mondshein's entry into the film industry was marked by his work as an assistant editor on two Sidney Lumet films in 1982: Deathtrap and The Verdict. He progressed to editing five of Lumet's films between 1984 and 1992, including Garbo Talks and Running on Empty. Notably, he was among the first editors to adopt electronic editing techniques, utilizing the Montage system for Lumet's Power in 1986.
A significant collaboration in Mondshein's career has been with Swedish director Lasse Hallström. Their partnership began with Once Around (1991) and includes acclaimed films such as What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), Chocolat (2000), and The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014).
Mondshein's editing of M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense (1999) garnered widespread recognition, earning him nominations for the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and ACE Eddie Award, as well as winning the Satellite Award for Best Editing.
